Réunion Jeudi 6 mai à 19h concernant le projet d’agrandissement du Collège Français

Sous-sol de l’église St. Michael’s and St. Anthony au 105 St.Viateur Ouest

Lors d’une séance publique qui s’est tenue au collège Français mercredi 28 avril en présence de représentants de l’arrondissement et du collège Français, un projet d’agrandissement du collège fut présenté aux résidents.

Celui-ci consiste à prolonger le bâtiment situé au coin de Fairmount et Waverly jusqu’à la ruelle, couvrant ainsi toute la cour d’école côté Waverly.  La séance publique visait à présenter les dérogations au zonage que le collège souhaite faire approuver par les résidents notamment la construction d’un quatrième étage destiné à recevoir la cour du collège et l’aménagement d’une vaste aire de stationnement dans la cour latérale du Pavillon Lafontaine.

L’intégralité du projet devrait être affichée sous peu sur le site web de l’arrondissement et est disponible pour consultation au bureau d’arrondissement situé au 201 Ave Laurier, bureau 500.

Selon ses propres affirmations le collège peut de plein droit construire un bâtiment de 3 étages sur ce site.   Les travaux doivent débuter cet automne et s’achever en 2011, juste à temps pour abriter l’école primaire des premières lettres située au 5155 avenue de Gaspé.  Celle-ci après 32 ans de service à cette adresse, a reçu un avis d’expulsion de la part de la ville de Montréal effectif en juin 2011.  La ville souhaite vendre ses locaux en appel d’offre.

Les résidents présents à la réunion se sont montrés extrêmement inquiets des impacts qu’auront ces modifications sur l’architecture d’ensemble, la circulation et le stationnement dans le quartier.

Les résidents habitant dans le périmètre compris entre les rues Jeanne-Mance, Saint-Urbain, Fairmount et Saint-Viateur seront amenés à se prononcer par voie référendaire sur les dérogations sous peu.

Meeting to discuss the expansion of College Français

Thursday, may 6th at 7Pm

Basement of  St Michael ‘s Church, 105 St. Viateur Ouest.

A project to expand College Français was presented to residents of the area by officials from both the College Français and the city of Montréal on Wednesday April, 28th.

The College wants to extend its 3 storey building at the corner of Fairmount and Waverly along Waverly right up to the alleyway thereby taking away the schoolyard (on the waverly side).

The meeting was held to present the exemptions to the zoning laws that the collège wants the residents to approve including the construction of a fourth floor that would act as the schools « playground » and the  creation of a big parking lot in the courtyard next the Pavillon Lafontaine.

The City of Montréal has already approved the project. The complete plans will be posted on the City district Web site but are also available for consultaton at their offices : 201 Laurier St. Office 500.

Apparently the Collège has the right to construct a 3 storey building on the site.

The work would begin this fall and finish in 2011 in time to house the private primary school « L’école des premières lettres » now situated at 5155 de Gaspé  St. After 32 years of being at this address they received an éviction notice from the city of Montréal effective June 2011 because the city wants to sell the land.

At the meeting residents expressed deep concern about the impact these changes would have on the quality of life in this area : trafic, parking and the general affect on the street architecture.

Residents  living in the area bordered by Jeanne Mance St. , St Urbain, Fairmount and St Viateur must decide whether or not they approve the exceptions to the zoning law that the Collège wants.
